Okay, most sports have their fair share of colourful characters, but surfing seems to have a plethora of personalities that keep us entertained. Here are some of those characters in all their glory:

Greg Noll is best known for paddling out at massive Makaha and Waimea Bay in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His nickname of 'Da Bull' gives his attitude away. He was a gutsy surfer in a pioneering age and he paddled into some of the heaviest waves of his day on what would today be classed as barn door style equipment. He did it all in his trademark black and white striped Jailhouse trunks that added to his larger than life personality. Here are a few clips about him. thewhale loves Greg Noll! A self-styled, 'Fun Hog'.
